Hey all, current student here and they send us periodic updates about where they are in the current cycle. I wanted to share that as of Oct 2 they have only interviewed 20 people so far (out of usually around 520ish for the whole cycle).

It seems they’re a little behind based on previous years, so do not despair!

Hey! Thank you for this incredibly insight!! I was wondering if they care that I’m currently getting my MPH at a different institution during my gap year. I know they see MD/MPH applicants in a different manner, but I didn’t know if I fall in that category or not since I’ll be start med school with an MPH. Aside from that, I have a rural background + rural healthcare work experience. What are your thoughts? Thank you!!

They love rural healthcare experiences/experiences in general, and given that they give priority to MD/MPH applicants, I would assume that already having an MPH would be seen as a big benefit. My sense is that they prioritize those applicants because of the benefit that the dual degree brings to patients, particularly in rural/underserved areas, not necessarily just their own dual program. They also consider people with unique healthcare experiences as part of the mission fit group, so a robust rural healthcare background could definitely fall into that category. There was an optional essay when I applied where you had the opportunity to discuss your rural experiences!

I will also say that, while it’s definitely harder to get in without OR ties, at least 15% of my class is OOS with no ties, so it’s not truly a 0% chance for those who don’t fall into the mission fit category.

Hey all, any insight on what to expect for our MMI? Is it with real people asking questions, allowing us to respond, then moving to the next station/interviewer? What's the vibe like?

Current M1 here - assuming it hasn’t changed, the MMI is real people, mostly doctors who are faculty but some nurses, admin people, etc too. It is very relaxed, the questions were not hard, and the people engaged after the answers and asked questions/chatted. I want to say it was 6 stations of 10 minutes each but I could be mixing that up with another school.
