Feels like BU is using some arbitrary filters to screen out and reject applications. I doubt they have read and made final decisions on so many applications given how recent some of them have been submitted.

yuck if so, glad im done with them now
I get that people are trying to come to terms with an early cycle rejection but bashing BU for filtering out applicants-something every school does whether you want to believe it or not-is really dumb imo. Would you rather wait until February to hear that you've been rejected when you've been sitting in a school's rejection pile since September?

I don't think that's the point they're making. It's more like, it's not possible to make such a decision on this many applicants that fast if they're doing a deep review like they said they were. So people just feel like they skimmed their app and got rid of whoever they can, and therefore feel like they weren't really give a genuine chance. In summary: false advertising.

A ton of other schools have already done this too, you just won't hear the rejection until months later. We are all realistically sitting on multiple Rs even if we haven't received them yet

Sure, but just about every school does that (with the exception of smaller, high IS-bias schools with small pools to begin with). It isn't feasible for these places to have people review tens of thousands of applications in full, so they need these simple filters to get through the bulk of them.

I'm explaining their viewpoint, not saying I'm bothered by the R myself. And why do you care if they're bashing BU? That school will live loll

Right, but that doesn't change what I said. They're bothered by BU saying they take every application into deep consideration when they're obviously not doing that. I'm explaining their POV, not saying I'm upset myself

this generalization isnt true. Some schools do take the time to keep almost all applicants in consideration until the end, probably because they know the opinion of just one app reader on one day is extremely variable. I dont think boston( and uchicago) are problematic for doing so, they're probably just screening for mission fit quickly, but its not a thorough review

Very few schools actually do this. Most applications are screened out and never looked at again, save for a substantial mid-cycle update.
