More stat-focused, I heard that anyone accepted through the post-bac linkage program things needs a 517+ on the MCAT to keep their spot now, I'm assuming they still care about research. Although I didn't have much research and things worked out!

Dang ok. Is it just admissions or have u noticed changes with the school. I heard admin changed or something.

What about in regards to regular MD admissions, does it impose a similar MCAT floor? Based on all the new rhetoric I'm entirely convinced that 516/3.95 is no longer enough for UPitt, even with stellar research productivity

Honestly IMO any GPA over 3.9 is regarded pretty much the same at all schools, including Pitt. As for MCAT I don't think there's a hard floor for regular MD admissions. In previous years, they've actually taken a few students with sub-500s, despite average being 517ish. They probably won't be taking low 500s anymore, but your score is right up there with the post-bac cutoff! If you have stellar research productivity that will help you for sure. At the end of the day, everything is kind of random and a crapshoot, so if you don't land an interview, I would not be able to say with confidence that it's because of your stats

The people running the admissions committee changed, and the policies and guidelines they use to screen candidates changed with it. I haven't noticed any changes with the school, other than that we have a relatively new curriculum (3 Rivers), but that's been around like 3-4 years

Hello to all the 2026-2027 applicants!

I was accepted this previous cycle with a merit scholarship and thought I’d try help out this year’s applicants if I can. If you have any questions about Pitt/application process I’ll do my best to answer (while preserving some anonymity).

My details:

In State/ORM, 1 gap year

52X MCAT/3.9X GPA

~400 paid/~50 volunteer high impact clinical hrs

<50 shadowing hrs

~600 volunteer hrs + volunteer leadership

~1k research hours + 2k from full time gap year, no pubs/posters at time of app

-strong LORs and I’d like to think strong essays as well, although no particularly unique narrative/motivations.

-interview performance felt meh to average but I have no way of knowing

Good luck to everyone in this upcoming cycle!

DUH..520 PLUS..THAT'S THE TICKET MY FRIEND

I’m an M1 here and I heard that 520 is now the floor for MCAT scores at Pitt med. (Also, it’s Pitt not UPitt lol)

how is it the floor if the median is now 521?

A 520 is 97th percentile, 521 is 98th percentile, and 522+ is 99th percentile or higher. So the median of that does land pretty squarely on 521. 523+ is orders of magnitude more rare than 520, I suppose.

Not saying that the hard 520 cutoff is necessarily guaranteed to be true, but a surface-level look at MCAT scores distributions does make it seem quite plausible for the median to be 521
