Thank you to all the M1s for sharing their experiences! I have an interview coming up, and I was wondering (based on data I've seen on here) if UCLA typically takes months before they release any post-interview decision, or if they reject and waitlist earlier (and then pull applicants off the WL later in the cycle)? Trying to mentally prepare myself for what is ahead haha.

i think how it works is if they really really like you, they will accept you before march. you can interview in october and get in during spring or you can get in a month after your interview. theres really no true turn around time. post interview, if you havent heard anything by early march, then youre probably getting waitlisted or rejected. if youre on the waitlist and in the email it says "you are near the top of the waitlist," youre most likely going to get accepted on 4/30 or a few days after that. if you dont get the "you are near the top of the waitlist" message, you have a much lower chance of getting accepted off the waitlist, but still have a chance. our class is about half waitlist kids and half initial acceptances kids, with most of the waitlist people being from the "top of the waitlist". i think they got through all of the "top waitlist" people and took a few from the regular waitlist.

as the other person said, I think UCLA heavily backloads their cycle in an effort to not over enroll as has happened to other schools in the past. They will release a few offers to superstars in Oct/Nov, a few more in December, and then the majority of their regular offers come out in February. I think they accept only to about class size until they get an idea about the yield. Hence why they do the "top of WL" thing so people who will probably get in eventually keep UCLA in mind when debating schools.

Since many people admitted to UCLA have other great options, they lose some admits to peer schools. They usually portion the top of the WL in such a way that those are people they think they will be able to accept. Some years a few get left off, and many years, there's a little spillover to the regular WL.

I would say there's a very high chance (if you are to be eventually admitted) it will happen after the new year, and a 50/50 chance it happens on 4/30, so it is a long wait. But I really hope you're one of the lucky ones who hears back soon. UCLA unfortunately uses very few rejections so people do get strung along :(

This is all correct info! I am an M1 and love my class so much! Everyone is so nice and has a lot of diverse experiences. I also really love that our class has a lot of nontrads with previous work experiences that they bring to our discussions on case studies. Sorry I am not on here at all recently since class has really ramped up.

How is this possible? AAMC guidelines specify no A’s before 10/15.
