Hi guys - recently accepted applicant here. Please let me know if I can help in any way. Happy to answer questions about the application process below or via DM. Here’s last years + MSAR data for future reference:

Earliest date for secondary, according to last year: ~07/04

Not everyone will receive a secondary

Earliest date for ii: ~08/12

Earliest date for A: 10/15

Total ii sent: 637 (IS: 320; OOS: 317)

Total wl sent: 370 (Includes high-priority and regular wl)

also incoming M1 here, good luck everyone! There is something incredibly special about the DGSOM, even compared to other top schools. I never thought I was gonna end up here as I had admissions to free schools and even a substantial 75% scholarship at another T10/20, but second look weekend flipped me completely. I agonized over it and made the (probably stupid, purely financially lol) decision to come here. Especially if you're interested in global health, this might be the best place in the country to pursue these fields.

can anyone confirm if the global health pathway application is the same, and still due at the time of submitting the secondary?

Yes it's on the same app! If you're selected to interview (the pathways don't affect that), you'll get a second chance to apply to global health and urban health

- Incoming DGSOM M1

If you haven't received the secondary hang tight! I received UCLA's secondary far later than most (and same with some others that screened), so I was really worried I had something on there that was giving pause (esp w/ good stats and no red flags). But it wasn't true, I ended up getting the secondary a couple weeks later, and I had a very successful cycle. Got accepted not only here but other T20s, so clearly you can get secondaries late and have a decent app lol

Was this also with early primary submission? Starting to get worried I was screened out since I submitted with first transmission

Yeah I saw people at my primary date get a secondary weeks before I did lol. Most of the screen is like IA's (some IA's manage to make it through tho), and stats, though some part is holistic. Ultimately, it just takes them a little while.

+1 OOS MD secondary. I was waitlisted here last year (not priority). If anyone sees this who had a successful reapp, I would love to hear how you approached the secondary given the character counts are pretty constrained and it would seem odd to have a very different personal mission. Thanks!

the page after the essay questions has it. you have to select that you are interested in one of the health equity pathways and then their questions show up

On the left hand navigation you should see a tab for "Pathway OPTION." You'll find the Urban Health Equity pathway option there. when you select it, you receive the questions.

okay i can confirm that there's no pathway option tab on the left... i'm wondering if it's because i'm applying for prime?

ohh maybe that is why. check the faq here https://medschool.ucla.edu/education/md-education/degrees-programs/urban-health-equity-pathway

it says "Students cannot be in the Prime and Pathway program together." I'm not sure if that means you can't apply to both though? Maybe email them if you really want to apply to both.

It's not explicitly marked as optional at least... exact same question as last year: "3. Describe how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted your pathway to medical school. Include any academic, personal, financial or professional barriers, as well as other relevant information. (800 characters)"

It seems like it is not a required field, so I assume the question is meant to be optional.

has anyone just left the COVID question blank in the past and still gotten in? im wondering if this is one of those situations where if you dont answer optional you get marked down

i assume it's optional, especially since a lot of students applying were in high school during covid and it makes sense it would have no real impact on us. if u want u could just write a sentence saying that but im just saying n/a

I wore about how it opened my eyes to health disparities in my home communities and what I did about these issues in my community health work

Does anyone know what percent of applicants get secondaries? Is it a good sign as an OOS, or is it relatively common?

I hear that the number fluctuates between 35-55%. But that's just folklore.

Did they give a deadline for turning in secondaries?
