how long has it been since the phone interview and did they give u a timeline on when to expect the real interview? If they offered a timeline and it hasnt elapsed yet i wouldnt. if they didnt offer a timeline and its been 4+ weeks i dont think it would hurt. You could always email Val who sends the monthly updates and ask if they accept update letters during that in between time.

It has been since 9/11. Im not really sure if they gave a timeline...if they have, I cant remember. Is the 500 hours completed significant enough to add? Is the symposium attended significant to add?

imo these aren't significant enough for an update. These are mostly meant for significant, new experiences, not just to mention you completed some projected hours. Also, attending a symposium where you "witnessed how the PBL mindset can be effective as a physician, truly like this school." doesn't warrant an update either. No offense meant by this but that sounds preachy/getting up on your soapbox. If you presented at the symposium or had a poster, I think thats a different story then.

I think it all depends on how you write the update. It's also opinion based. Anon^ doesn't think they're significant enough. My opinion is that if you write an update with a specific patient vignette, what you learned from it, and how it will make you a better physician or how those skills will translate, that's meaningful. I agree you can't write an update to confirm you completed projected hours. But updating them on how you have continued to thoughtfully engage in patient care, and hopefully with your community, I don't think that hurts. You just need to be concrete about the way you do it.
I do feel like the symposium bit is somewhat weaker. But i also understand that not everyone has an update about presenting an abstract at a conference. So if you can talk about the symposium and then connect it to like the jump trading simulation and education center or something specific with real take aways it could be more tangible. Or if you can make the symposium an example of how you're excited to continue engaging with continuing medical education and mention symposiums you want to attend at WMed, that could be something. This would be like a paragraph at most, not a significant portion of your update.
It's all a matter of opinion. I don't think it hurts to reach out to their adcom and confirm they accept the letters between interviews.

I just did my phone interview 10/16 and the lady basically told me that I might not hear back until february. i said wow thats a long time! and she said yeah I dont want to tell you sooner because theres many applicants way ahead of you that have been waiting a long time already. so hopefully this is some consolation! our time will come we just have to be patient :) no news is good news!

Idk its more seeing like the patients before and after surgery has really showed me how qol can increase, and serving in a rural community once every two weeks has really expanded the population diversity that I have worked with. Have also shadowed. Im getting antsy bc I havent heard anything since then and ik people from my phone date have been sent out virtual ii
I did a phone interview on 10/15. Are people still waiting a month or longer to see if you get a II? I apologize if this has been addressed many times before, but I am wondering whether the time gap has changed since earlier in the cycle.

Thank you for the quick reply. Best of luck, and I hope we both hear something soon!
