Are the secondaries out/same as last year?

What is this reading assignment prompt? Are we supposed to just analyze the writing piece based on the prompt or tie in things from our own backgrounds?

I analyzed the text, I didn't tie in anything about me personally.

for the first app (the professional school one for main campus uf), did you all put all your activities in the activity section or just the ones you would be doing during the cycle. it says "List how you have spent or plan to spend your time before entering UF (employment, travel, military, etc) while not enrolled in college." so im assuming it just ur gap year activities?

I didn't read the email thoroughly enough to realize another office uses this to determine residency so that's all it's about FYI. I did gap year/ongoing activities in mine with future end dates.

What are you guys doing for the disadvantage essay in the secondary app if you wrote one already in the primary app? Same essay? Different essay same story? I mean how many times can I say I'm poor?

I may be kinda stupid, but we "read and reflect" on both, but only write about one reflection for that huge question, right? Or are we supposed to touch on, say, reflection one if we picked reflection two to use for our answer about humanity for the actual question? Bruh, I am not making any sense. Sorry, this is so poorly worded LOL. Hopefully someone gets my yapping

I am also going to just write about one, so I guess we will find out together if we missread this thing or not

I also only wrote about one, I don't think it makes logical sense to try to do both given how opposite they are and how limited space is. Plus the 'choose one' like you said. They just want to see how we think and maybe we failed the first step, maybe we didn't either way nobody knows!

Title: International applicant with no research experience interested in UFMed School

Hi everyone! I’m an international student completing my undergraduate degree in the U.S. on an F-1 visa, and I’m hoping to apply to MD programs. UFMedical School is a school I’m very interested in, but I also understand that admission is extremely difficult, particularly for international applicants.

Honestly, I’m trying to figure out how realistic this goal is for me and what I would need to do to become a competitive applicant.

For context, I currently have around a 3.7 GPA, am working toward a 515+ MCAT, and have clinical, volunteering, and leadership experiences. However, I currently have 0 research experience, which is one of the areas I’m most concerned about.

For people who have applied to UF, especially international applicants:

How significant of a disadvantage is having no research experience at this point?

How much research experience would you recommend building before applying?

Does research need to result in publications/posters, or is meaningful involvement in a lab enough?

How important are clinical and non-clinical experiences compared with research?

How much does being an international or F-1 student affect the admissions process?

If you were in my position, what would you prioritize over the next 1–2 years?

Would you consider UFA a realistic reach for someone with my current profile, or an extremely unlikely option?

I’m genuinely looking for realistic feedback, even if the answer is that I have a lot of work to do. I’d rather know that now and use the next couple of years wisely than build my application around unrealistic expectations.

correct me if im wrong but UFCOM does not take international students?..

I would absolutely gain some research experience and not just for UF but for all med schools in general. Keep in mind that UFCOM's 2030 class had an average of 1000 hours of research, 3.85 GPA, and 517 MCAT. While research isn't the end all be all, it is still a very important part of your app. Taking on a meaningful project and being able to contribute and learn lessons is very valuable. Having posters and publications is definitely a plus. What is more important is having a "theme" or an "archetype" to your application. Having activities that all line up to a specific goal and can show an adcom what you want to do in medicine before they even read your PS.

At the end of the day it is very difficult to tell you if its a reach for you because we would need to see your entire app but I would focus on refining your app and potentially finding research that excites and resonates with you.
