I just checked and the portal's actually still open (unlike UCLA which automatically locks you out) so i wouldn't need to ask for an extension actually... but yea ur right about it looking bad which is why im so on the fence ://
If the portal's still open and if it wouldn't be too much extra work to finish your essays, you might as well submit? Like I agree they probably just auto-reject if you're late, but the odds are slightly better than not submitting, where you'll 100% get rejected.

no experience directly with UCSF, but had friends who missed deadlines for UCLA or davis, and both of those schools were 100% strict on the deadline

Please don't give bad advice. They keep track of timelines, all the UCs do. All you're doing is encouraging OP to pay the fee and waste their money for an inevitable R.

Now this is bad advice. If the portal is still open, submit. Medical school admissions process is super expensive, if you can afford the money, why not? Although they keep track of timelines, 2 days is not terrible and I am sure other people have also submitted a few days late.

I would bet you a lot of money every single person that has been accepted to this school (mayyyyyyyybe with the exception of 1 or 2 people ever) has submitted their secondary within the 2 weeks. Most schools do not comment on the secondary submission timeline, but if they go out their way to recommend 2 weeks, and they are literally a T5 school, theres no shot they ever glance at your app lmaooo. Don't be so naive.

It's not even a recommendation. It's a deadline 💀. If it was a recommendation, I would say absolutely submit. Because it's a deadline, this person is purely wasting their money.
