It likely has to be someone you took a class from. You could call and ask; they seem to be pretty strict about it. I called yesterday about the non-science prof LoR and they said it was a firm rule. At least I checked before I wrote the essays and paid the submission fee :/

When I called, I was told that a PI/research mentor letter would count for my second science letter. They were also super nice and receptive to questions.

I would agree with this as well but for EVMS they are pretty specific and I could only answer 1 of them the other just didn't fit my journey.

except it is. this is a general rule for most schools. just do a quick google search. not completing it could either be held against you, have no impact on your application, or you lose the opportunity to gain a few points that could help you get an interview. better to be safe than sorry

if its a very specific question that you have no connection to, forcing an answer will hurt you. its optional for a reason, especially if they have multiple other essays

that does not apply to the two optional questions for this school. if the optional question was regarding ties to a state that you don't have, of course don't answer it. that's obvious. but for the optional questions for this school, they are broad enough that almost anyone can answer it. and generally, its like that for most schools

It's certainly a missed opportunity but it starts with "if you would like" so it's not like it's required.

how many days does it take to get the confirmation email that your application has been verified as complete? I submitted last week and have yet to receive one

If yall are writing fluff essays for #6 and #7 you are shooting yourselves in the foot

I agree. I would have forced an answer to 7 and chose not to answer.

at the end of the day theres no correct answer people get in without answering and people don't get in when they answer them so do what you want

yup, i submitted on 7/14 and they emailed me on 7/22 saying my app was complete

For those waiting, have you checked your spam? My eastern secondary came with like 7 emails, like a glitch, and one went to spam.
