yeah i’m also confused about this they didn’t say anything about this to my interview group. they said if you’re waitlisted updates will help

Same! I was MSTP, and that is what they told us; no mention of update letters before the committee review, but they said to definitely send an update letter if you are deferred and get a paper published or something like that.
