+1 OOS secondary. The email says I need to submit everything, including Casper within 30 days. I'm testing July 7th. Trying to figure out if this will be an issue.

You are probably fine. Per CASPER, scored are delivered to schools within 2-3 weeks. In my experience it was on the sooner end. Only takes a month for you to receive your quartile. In the unlikely event it takes longer, you are probably still fine given you made a good faith attempt to get it in fairly early in the cycle.

I don't think the screening is based on the casper score

how did yall answer the change your mind prompt? I'm stuck on whether to write about a time where I changed my mind on a specific issue or when I changed my mind about a more general belief

I wrote mine as changing my mind on a more general belief, but I grounded it in a specific story that caused me to reconsider that belief
For anyone applying MD/PhD- Are you guys planning on writing entirely separate answers for these prompts?:
- Describe your motivation for obtaining a dual degree. This question is very similar to the AMCAS prompt, and you can either copy your essay or submit a different answer.
- Describe your significant research experience(s) and your role in any publications. This question is very similar to the AMCAS prompt, and you can either copy your essay or submit a different answer.
It just feels like a waste of time for me to redo those essays, especially since I have no new experiences to add and I would just be repeating everything from my primary. As of right now, I'm planning on copying and pasting, unless I hear a resounding "do NOT do this" lol

Nah, I c/p'd my primary essays. Figured it wouldn't be an issue considering they explicitly say that we can
+1 R. I’ll be seeing myself out now. :(
Would not have cared at all if this happened in a few months, but I feel as if I am the first person across all schools to be rejected. What a gut punch. Feeling incredibly dejected and like I don’t belong. (OOS, 514, 3.83, 1st q casper )

Did you have any hours you were concerned about? What do you think they screened for?

I think service is what did it for me. I think they screen for 100-150 hrs??
Spoke with an adcom there before and was told they screen for >300 clinical hours, >40 shadowing hours, >100 service hours, research not needed but highly recommended.
Edit: but it's lower to get auto-rejected, from the school page >60 clinical hours, >40 shadowing hours, >100 service hours.

If they r gonna screen for those hours, couldn't they do that before secondaries? or at least be transparent so people aren't wasting money??????? grrr

I got rejected 7/18. My first rejection and I feel like crap. (OOS, 522, 3.57, 2nd quartile Casper)

VCU rejects pretty fast. They screen prior to their secondaries so your primary was at least decent. Perhaps it was just the essays? But best of luck to you<3 You will end up somewhere that aligns with you even more!

I have the same stats as you (OOS, GPA, MCAT, and CASPER) and also got R. I also have above their nonclinical community service threshold.

when does VCU start interviewing??
Is there still the "Clinical exposure can be separated into two distinct components..." question? And if so how is it structured? Is it 250 characters for every physician observation or work/volunteerism activity you've had all combined into one text box? Or is it 250 characters for an entry and you get multiple entries?

Also, for something like working in an emergency room, where I do patient care daily but also assist physicians directly with procedures like intubations and central lines in the same shift, would I try to break that up as like every 12 hour shift I do around an hour of procedural work? Or put that activity just in Work/volunteerism and say in the description that I also do physician observation in this activity?

If I used AI to edit my primary but not write anything, should I even bother submitting my secondary at this point? They stated that no AI usage in either application was a big thing.

how they gonna know lol? I bet you they're using AI themselves, just don't be an idiot with it and keep it to making light edits
Are the people getting R's from here getting them because of the school screening for number of hours in certain categories requirement or is it more than that?

how would anyone know it's not like they say we're rejecting you because X Y Z

A little personal accountability goes a long way. If someone's barely around the number of hours then that is a likely possibility if no other red flags exist, if someone has well beyond the number of hours they want then it's likely not the possibility. Pretty easy to distinguish in fact.

I disagree. There's essays, mission fit, LOR, etc.
