OOS but lots of my family went to Iowa for undergrad

any advice for interview?

It's super chill. Only 25 min with two people in the room. They ask basic questions (if you look up Iowa interview on SDN they have questions which they commonly ask). Be warned, they do not give much reaction to your responses. They're pretty stoned face, which made me think I did terrible but I ended up getting in so don't let it throw you off. For the group learning activity, just be normal and add to the conversation and it should be fine.

We were done like around 2 PM CT but I was in person on a Friday so it may be different if you're doing it on a different day (I know those start later and end later). It went the full scheduled time when I was there.

Anyone have a rough estimate of how many IS ppl have been accepted so far? If we interviewed earlier in the cycle and haven’t heard back, can we assume we’ll be placed in the final pool (IS)?

i am also wondering this. it seems that most people on SDN are listing they're OOS and getting As. my understanding was that they're required by law to admit at least 80% in state students effective July 2025. im confused why so many OOS As for an OOS unfriendly school.

I heard that majority of applicants hear decision in March.

I know that rank doesn't really matter. I thought that Iowa was ranked in the top 30 a few years back and surprised that they fell to 50s now. Anyone knows the reason?

From what I've heard there has been a decrease in state funding for the University of Iowa, and a massive brain drain from the state of Iowa as a whole in recent years

Boy do I wish I’d seen this before my interview. After everyone had been so friendly, it was definitely a shock that my interviewers appeared so cold. I’m hopeful this means I didn’t do as terribly as I had thought I did 😅

The law states that 80% of incoming students must have ties to Iowa, including attending undergrad in Iowa. That way, if you are an oos student and went to school at an iowa institution, you will still be in that 80%.

does anyone know if they are done sending out decisions until the january status update? i know they typically release on tuesdays and i assumed they were done for the holidays but wanted to ask if anyones heard anything

i might be wrong, but going off last years forums I believe this was the final week for decisions before the Jan update :/

edit: was basing this off admit.org info. per sdn there was a reported A on Dec 17th last cycle. so there may be a few more weeks of rolling admissions.

Do they tend to go out around the same timeframe? I'm not sure if I should keep hoping and refreshing my inbox or if that's probably it for today's wave :/

From last year's timeline we should start hearing back next week or the last week of Jan

Next week when they let us know about final pool, do they release any As also? Or is it just final pool or R?

From what I understand, next week (according to past year’s timelines) they will let you know if you made the “final pool” or not. This means your app will be revisited in March (not anytime before then). Then mid March they will let you know if your A, R, or WL. I think most of the movement happens when these decisions come out. I’m not sure if they will A or R next week though, or if it’s just final pool decisions
