My guess is <1000 bc of how late in the cycle it is
Any guesses as to when they'll start sending IIs? Next week maybe?
Will they offer federal loans as a new school

Worth applying as an OOS applicant with an MD A already? UGA will definitely be a good school and Athens is a great town

I applied cause why not? I agreed it will be a good school and threw my name into the mix. Doesn't hurt I guess.

I think it’s a waste of time/ effort. They have clearly noted multiple times they’re are looking for GA residents/ people with significant ties.

Yeah but if you have no A’s and don’t wanna reapply, it’s another chance even though it’s low

I’m not trying to be negative but if you have no As previously I would assume your chances would be even poorer as an OOS student unless you make significant improvements to your app already.
it’s a class of 60 people at a seemingly very mission fit school, they aren’t short of qualified applicants.
You’re right it still is ultimately a non zero chance and admissions are so random anything could happen but I can’t understand why so many OOS students are applying with no ties when they have directly stated that is what they want.

Sure my app may suck, and I have no mission-fit. Still worth the money and couple hours I spent on essays. Anything is worth not reapplying

I get it. Good luck regardless. Have you had anyone look at your app?
Still have not received a secondary, even though I meet the required MCAT and GPA.
Anyone else in the same boat?

Aside from my WAMC on SDN, no
My portal is showing my application as incomplete due to a missing letter of recommendation (there’s a X mark next to it), but when I click into the details it shows that my committee letter has already been received.
I submitted my secondary on the first day it opened, and all materials appear to be in. Just wondering if this is a processing delay or if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

I'm experiencing the same thing right now. I think it's a glitch with the portal, but if it might be worthwhile to contact the admissions office. I probably will on Monday.

At the open house they mentioned that only two people were doing all of the admissions this cycle so I’d be patient with them

Yeah sure
- comfirmation lectures would be mandatory because "learning happens with people" she made it sound good ngl
- no mention of dress code
- 11 associated clinical sites
- they are accepting OOS and did note they dont have the same requirements as other public schools in GA, sounds like they will be more OOS friendly
- this years class is 60, next is 64
- rural georgia tour at some point in m1
- a lot of details are still getting figured out but yes to dedicated, no to free resources like Uworld or AMBOSS, apparently that is illegal in the state of Georgia
- no tuition remission, she basically said good luck with your private loans. Very sweetly though lmao
- they did mention they believe a sig portion of their students will come from UGA, since they are a powerhouse pre med producer
- This isnt confimed lmao but all of students I met were either UGA alums or current cycle rejects. Good mix of trad and gap year applicants. Self selecting bias though, wouldn't read into it much.
- Not as heavy rural focused as orignally stated?? Tbh I still think they are figuring out who they want to be fr, which I guess comes with the territory
- No mention of residency matching.
- mandatory public policy research??? this was a little unclear
- they did mention they got a LOAD of applications already.
thats all I remembered. Everyone was so kind and very invested in the success of the school. My final read is that I wouldnt enter this current cycle just to apply, inaugs are gonna be guinea pigs a bit.

Can confirm. One of the faculty members told me they got a record number on the first day, which is why there was a delay in responding and troubleshooting. They were not expecting this.

The vast majority of people I met were OOS. Of course, the premed students were there. I even met a football alum (at least I think he played football there he looked familiar)

1. In state tuition
2. Attached to one of the biggest universities in America (oldest public too)
3. Hella money thrown behind it. (Scholarship and other financial)
4. Research opportunities
5. Name brand

a large position of applicants are OOS with no tie to GA. They emphasized how important that was to them even if they are OOS friendly.
So many people applied before even checking the minimums.
That eliminates a good portion of applications already.

fair enough😔 i’ll be a happy georgia resident so i hope they give me a chance LOL
If the ratio of 50:1 IS/OOS holds true, unless your stats are gnarly and your ties are good I’d put eggs in a different basket. Just living in a bordering state prob not gonna cut it but I’m not an adcom

Where’d 50:1 come from ? I Do agree OOS is pointless unless you’re from GA/ went to college here tho

Yeah they are def in state biased. Especially as a public school with state funds

Someone on either SDN or admit (can’t remember) following open house provided that ratio. That’s consistent with the other in state public anyways.

That makes sense! I found this on the AU/UGA partnership website. :
“27 of the new students holding an undergraduate degree from the university. Emory University (8), Georgia Tech (4), and Georgia State University (3) were the other most represented institutions within the state. Only eight members of the class received their undergraduate education out of state.”
I would assume that majority of the eighth also are from Georgia. Since it’s largely the same team over the new school, I would assume the demographic to look similar.
