I got mine last week

They interview very early, I got mine 7/7 last year. They prioritize high stats/strong mission fit applicant for the first batch of II

I’m worried bc I submitted everything except the lor aren’t all in yet. They won’t send me an interview without it right?

Can you please share how the interview was and the phone interview? Any curve ball questions to expect apart from them asking about mcat scores/low grades?

I interviewed with the Dean of Admissions for 1.5 hours. I don't think there is a phone interview; it's a 30-minute Zoom interview with a medical student. There were no curveball questions because the dean said he didn't want to stress me out. They might ask about how your study for the MCAT or what's a class you struggled with, but that's just to know you better. Also, the Dean felt very uhhhh stiff and stone-faced during the entire interview, so I thought he did not like me, but I still got accepted in December. He actually tried to sell the school to me during the second half, so it was a relief to have him do most of the talking, haha. The student interview was so chill and conversational (but watch out, if you let your guard down/show up late without apologizing/swear/or act disrespectfully, it will hurt you really reallllllly badly).

Does getting an II early on (high stat/mission fit) probably mean better chances of acceptance?

There are 2 waves of As. If u interview early, ur more likely to be part of the first wave. I interviewed in February and got in in April.

it’s gonna be a long wait. Prepare for that. DS loves high stat. At the beginning, high stat people will get in (starting december). High stat enough to get into T20s. Then you will get on Alternate list on April 1st, then high stat people will start to get off the AL.

my stats are basically maxed out but my service and clinical hrs are relatively low, but decent alignment with their mission for the hours that i do have

just worried about yield protection given the high stats, any insight?

lol DS doesn’t do yield protection at all. They would accept all high stat applicants first. You should be fine if your interview goes well. Keep gaining hours and send them an update letter later in the cycle .

lol basically guaranteed A if u get an II. They love the high stats ppl. they like flexing it in their info sessions that are in person. even tho 90% of high stats leave for antoehr school

no but maybes its cause im oos even though I have regional ties

can anyone who currently attends suny downstate share their lecture style? Are in person lectures optional? Do you guys have small group based labs, etc...

definitely overthinking this but should i answer this secondary question if ive been working part time during a gap year:
Are there any periods longer than 3 months, from the time you graduated from high school to now, when you were not employed full time or in college full-time?

For people with committee letters, did you only submit a committee letter or did you submit individual letters too? My committee letter prob won't be sent until August but I want DS to go ahead and review my app/maybe send me a II

for people who got an interview, how much time passed between "your app is being reviewed" until the time u got an interview?

is the review email different from the complete? i got a "your application is complete" on 7/7 but nothing since then.

for me i was lucky and it was about a week. but last year is was like 20 days. it is completely random. i know someone who got the offer months after me and applied weeks before me. They got in an I didn't.

yes, they are different emails. I got them on the same day. One is titled, "SUNY Downstate: SUNY Downstate - Your Secondary Application has been submitted" and the other, "SUNY Downstate: SUNY Downstate College of Medicine - Your Application is Complete."

I just submitted to SUNY because I added it last minute. Do you think it is too late since they already started sending out interview invites?

Anyone else having a problem with the photo? I was told to reupload a photo with the requirements and a deadline, and I did it the same day, but I haven't heard back from the school since then, and I still have a red mark/hold on the checklist.

i never got an app being reviewed just an email saying it was complete on 7/2 then oos ii on 7/22!

How did you guys fill out the lab pre req part

My college only offers 1 semester (2 credits) of intro biology lab. Do I put it under bio 1 or 2 lab? there was no pre reqs for taking the lab. Can I put an upper level biology lab (genetics) for the other lab?

my school was the same i just put it under bio 1 as a single course
