does anyone know if Downstate accepts post II updates?

Hi folks, just was wondering how SUNY Downstate evaluates OOS candidates? Are the people interviewed/accepted generally only those with strong ties?

hi - to me there's a clear preference for in-state + some OOS with strong ties. obvi can't speak to how many folks they take each year, but there is info somewhere on their site stating how many OOS they take from each year, and which states those usually are.

doubt there's a quota for certain states, ie 2 from MA/year, for example, but more likely that those with strong ties are generally from similar states yearly, statistically speaking. doesnt tell us much, but the numbers are interesting. take a look!

If i interviewed already and didn't get an email for acceptance, should I assume its a no or waitlist?

They sent an email saying to log into their application portal to view the decision, and it was under the Admissions Decision tab

do we think they're done with sending II? or expecting more after the holidays? i'm finding it hard to extrapolate how far along they are b/w here & sdn & cycle track bc a part of me is thinking its low reporting

anyone get accepted into a masters program but not heard back from the med school... feeling a bit nervous

I did! But my interview isn’t until next month, so I’m assuming the MPH adcom just released a wave today not knowing/not paying attention to the MD side of things

got accepted to the MPH but rejected from MD a few days ago, withdrew from the MPH because i have other MD acceptances but it could be a good sign for you if they havent sent that R yet

how far apart were both acceptances i got the mph one yesterday too but the md one didnt come at the same time

the MPH one came at 11:11am and the MD one came at 12:51pm

do you understand that they are completely independent. the odds of the same day is insanely rare lol. for all i know i will get waitlisted or accepted later. its funny that it raised your hopes and upset you probably in the morning and later excited you

idk homie i deadass woke up at like 4pm that day LOL but hey !! suny saw something in you that gave them confidence to admit you to their MPH program!! let’s hope that the MD committee is seeing the same things in you, and that hopefully it’s only a matter of time :))

Yes I got that back in October! And I had less than 24 hours to respond but I haven't head a decision yet.

Has anyone sent an update letter? I dont know if it should just be uploaded straight to the portal or emailed to their admissions email

Im confused by how downstate is operating lol I also interviewed early fall and have heard nothing. I thought most decisions were supposed to come early Jan for those that had interviewed

do we get the name of our interviewer? also is this a fully open file or blind to grades?

for people who got the A, did you send any update letters or letters of interest?

your interviewer will be copied on the email you receive a few days prior to your interview. my interviewer commented on my mcat score so I assume fully open file!

Its the day before my interview, and i still have not gotten a zoom link, when did you guys get it?

they tell you in your interview invite that the link will come 1-2 days before your interview. mine came ~9am the day before.
