Really laid back, traditional interview with a faculty member and student. Just know answers to common questions like why medicine and such.

Interviewed October 9th and haven't heard back from the school, does this mean I'm gearing towards waitlist or is the window too short to know?

I would say waitlist, but in the past the window post interview can be up to two months before a decision

with the waitlist decisions coming back today, does not hearing back at all after interviewing in October mean I got straight-up rejected? Still under review? this is rough

On SDN people who had to wait that long post-interview were typically rejected

Are you positive that your coworker was admitted off the waitlist? There is a letter from the dean that states they admitted 0 people from the waitlist last cycle.

Wow. Interesting that the hpwl email says that the "likelihood of us offering you a seat is very high"

So bs that schools just shamelessly lie like this.

Pretty poor experience here overall. my stats are a decent amount over their averages and I am in state. My faculty interviewer here just grilled me on my application cycle, asking where I had interviewed, been accepted, etc. I do not do well at coming up with lies on the spot and was caught off guard. I ended up telling the truth, mentioning I had a couple T20 interviews, but only one acceptance and I would go to stony brook over it. Was just waitlisted with a line in my letter saying "I realize that you too may already hold a place at another medical school."

I think this school conducted their interview day incredibly unprofessionally and that they may have used this information in their decision making process. If this is my first experience with the admin here, I don't really want to see what they'd do while I was a student.

Sorry to hear about your experience! That is sooooo shady of them.

I was accepted and while my interview wasn't as negative of an experience, I definitely agree that their interview day sucked (even the student panelists seemed not into the school at all) and didn't really make me excited to attend. My acceptance letter had the same line about holding other acceptances so I wouldn't read into it. If you are feeling up to it it might be worthwhile to email admissions and let them know of your experience so they can get rid of this interviewer for next year (unless you are hoping for the WL to become an A). Good luck with the rest of your decisions.

Sorry to hear that! Echoing what the other person said, I think that was def unprofessional. I was lucky to have extremely nice interviewers, but the student informal info session was not up to par with other schools. I think if you show interest you could def get of WL, and I hope that this is just an isolated incident. I think sometimes schools like SBU might yield protect, but the way they did it was not right.

"I realize that you too may already hold a place at another medical school." -- ignore this, this is default for most schools
