2025-2026 ThreadHi guys, I’ve seen other people mention that they did great in their interviews but still got rejected. Does anyone have any anecdotal insights about that?
can anyone speak to how interviews are? nervous about the mmi format!

only interviewed this cycle but I do have a guess. Almost every single person I interacted with during my interview day and the social beforehand was very friendly and personable, including almost all of the MMI interviewers. I think this leads most people to feel like they did pretty well. Hence, most people leave feeling pretty good.
the other important thing is that we don't know how important the interview is within the whole app for Duke's rubric. maybe someone really did have a great interview but the rest of their app just wasn't up to par. The reality is that the worst candidate they interview is still probably quite impressive, so decisions will be made at the margins.

Right, I've also seen people say they feel they did pretty bad on their interview (whatever that means) but got accepted. So, it's sort of hard to grasp.

Yea, we can guess all we want, I think the reality is we suck at assessing our own interview performance. Premed has a decent amount of people that think they are gods gift to the world who may think they are great but come off terrible, and also many very neurotic people who refuse to see how good they are. Makes self reported interview vibes very unreliable. '
If you interview you have a chance, don't think about it much past that.
any tips for how to prepare for the MMI?

Read MMI books. like the one from Dr. Desai

i read this book and was not helpful for the duke MMi. honestly i think raw dogging it is the best way to go, none of the scenarios are anything you can prep for

Aside from that book, you need to practice a lot. raw dogging wont help. you want to be consise with your responses!

I did practice a lot, and practicing was not helpful. I won't elaborate because dont wanna break the NDA but none of the questions can be prepped for/read about online or anything like that

I definitely don't agree with that and I am also not going to argue with you about it. Good luck tho. Just know that you are better off over-prepared than underprepared.

Respectfully I would disagree. MMI prep is not about guessing what questions you will get, it is about learning to think on your feet. Doing mock MMIs is one of the best things you can do. read basic ethics and what not, but practice is the name of the game no amount of knowledge will make you more quick witted without practice.

Agreed. Very amicable interviewers
Does anyone know what percentage of duke undergrads get duke med interviews? Anecdotally heard it was a lot, but haven't heard of any duke premeds getting one yet...do they save them for end of cycle?

I can't tell you an %, but there was a few students who went to Duke for undergrad during my interview week.

I'm a duke alum who hasn't heard from duke med yet. I remember going to an HPA session a few years ago where the med school dean said they interview a lot of duke premeds. My memory is fuzzy, but he showed us a table of admissions info and I THINK it said 15% of Duke premeds that year got interviewed. But I'm not totally sure. It's definitely a decent number of people

I also went to that presentation and was trying to remember...it was driving me nuts because I thought I had it in my notes app! I was thinking it was somewhere in that range. Thanks so much!

15%? That's nothing for a school like Duke which has strong premeds.

Just found the table I was looking for! For the 2021-2022 cycle, 234 Duke undergrads completed the secondary, 81 were interviewed, and 41 were accepted. Sorry for the misinformation, my numbers were off
I feel like Duke hasn't sent that many interviews compared to other schools but I'm not sure. I know their secondaries were given out late, but still it is December now. Does anyone who interviewed here have an idea of where they are at in the cycle? I'm a Duke alum with strong ties to their med school and hoping to pull through with an II.

According to someone who interviewed recently on SDN, they supposedly stated during that interview that they are only about 1/3rd of the way done. Admit and cycletrack seem to corroborate that, so I'm hoping it's true....

Thanks! How can you tell that Admit and cycletrack corroborate that? I wasn't sure if they meant that only 1/3 of the interviews had been completed at that point but the other dates are already booked out much farther or if they meant only 1/3 of the interview invites were sent at that point.

Just assuming based on % of IIs reported relative to % of reported secondaries submitted! All speculation and a little bit of coping though ;)

They send all the information you need in regards to the interview. Just practice answering mmi q's

extremely difficult, but nothing you can do to prepare for it imo. i tried to read desai's book and it was mostly useless for the MMI, so wouldn't recommend that for duke

Is there still a chance to get II? GPA 3.7 MCAT 524, research heavy > 3k hours, first author for a research publication

Got an II very recently so they're definitely still sending them out.

Had friend interview earlier this month, they said that the adcoms told them they were behind and considering extending their Interview window and around 50% of what they usually send out.

If anyone else who interviewed here recently has any updates on Duke's II cycle from the adcoms it would be very very much appreciated!

50% of target was the interpretation, not a 50% decrease from the year prior.

One more thing I would be careful about extrapolating from this years admit data in relation to last year. Per HR the mean admit score last year was 700-ish, now it is closer to 500. This means that it will probably seem like schools are interviewing a lower % of applicants then the year prior when really, we are most likely getting more accurate data this year due to larger and more representative sample size.

Meaning there are still almost 50% of IIs left for Duke to send out? That seems like a lot

Agreed, I suspect they will either interview less people or extend the window by a week or so. Will be curious to see how it all shakes out. I don't think Duke is known for hefty aid and with the new bill I will be curious how their yield shifts relative to top schools with more generous aid packages.
Also, that was early Dec so it could be closer to 60 or 70% now. Based on my interview day, they interview 40 people per week. If they interview every week, they could squeeze in a lot more before the 3rd week of Feb.

@Albert Einstein haha

Do you guys think there will be a lot more IIs this month?
last interview slot is end of jan, and they usually send II a week before
