Are the secondaries the same as last year?

Are the secondaries the same as last year?

They are essentially the same. Most of the questions are just worded a little different.

1. CDU's vision is "Excellent health and wellness for all in a world without health disparities." Using a specific experience from your background — clinical, community, research, or personal — describe how this vision has already shaped your path and how you plan to advance it as a CDU physician. (1200 characters)

2. Beyond stating your commitment, illustrate it: describe a specific moment when you took meaningful action to address the health needs of an underserved or underrepresented community. What did you do, what did you learn, and how has it shaped the physician you intend to become? (800 characters)

3. What draws you to CDU specifically — not medicine generally? Identify concrete elements of CDU's mission, curriculum, community, or location that align with your goals and are not easily found elsewhere. Be specific about why CDU is the right fit for you. (800 characters)

4. Describe a specific instance in which you experienced or witnessed discrimination. What was the impact on you or others involved? How did this experience shape your understanding of equity, and how will it inform your practice as a physician? (800 characters)

5. Describe a concrete vision for your post-residency impact: Which community do you intend to serve, what unmet need will you address, and what specific role — clinical, advocacy, research, or policy — do you see yourself playing? Be as specific as possible about place, population, and purpose. (800 characters)

6. Have you participated in any CDU programs (pipeline, degree, community, research, etc.)? Optional

If Yes, List any CDU programs you have participated in, including approximate dates and your role or involvement (e.g., participant, volunteer, researcher). (9999 characters)

7. How did you first learn about CDU COM? If a person, mentor, or experience introduced you to CDU, briefly describe the context. (9999 characters)

8. How will you use your personal experience with poverty and housing insecurity as a physician? Describe how it has shaped your perspective on health, access to care, or the doctor-patient relationship. How will this lived experience inform the way you approach patients facing similar circumstances? (800 characters)

9. Reapplicants only: Since your last application, what has meaningfully changed? Describe new experiences, achievements, or insights — academic, clinical, or personal — and reflect on how they have strengthened your readiness for medical school and your commitment to CDU's mission. (400 characters)

how so? Their stats are a lot lower so I can't imagine how much they screen. I am without a secondary with a 500+ and 3.62 GPA so I'm confused

I know Drew screens really heavily, and there is not much on my primary that would tell them I'm a good fit. I'm applying bc I got sober in South Central, but I'm definitely not telling other schools about my sobriety. I kind of want to send them an update with this information bc they will reject me likely either way, but do we think there is any way this information gets out or they share it with another school?

From my understanding, they care a lot about mission fit and how that is demonstrated throughout your primary application. An update letter that shows your efforts to advance health equity would be stronger in my opinion. Getting sober in South Central could be an add-on. I don’t know how they would interpret that. If you reflect on it in a way they like, perhaps it could help you. And no, they would not share that information with other schools. You also might want to email them and ask if they even consider update letters for sending out secondaries.

yes I would definitely write about other things in the letter, I just think that is a nice connection to bring up since the area is known for its recovery and they look for location ties :) thanks for your input! I figure its a R if I don't so I might as well.

I added them to AMCAS July 28th at 3:25 PST, and they sent me a secondary at 11 PM same day. Not sure how it was so fast especially since I've been seeing how they screen heavily, but yeah lol. I've been verified since June, however
