Need Help Deciding Between UCF vs FAU
Hey everyone! I am having a hard time deciding between UCF or FAU as they both seem like awesome programs. I am primarily interested in Pulm/Cardio/Onc, but I am open to all specialties. I also appreciate any input on the clerkships and hospitals. Any help is greatly appreciated!
UCF:
Pros:
- Closer to home and nice location
- Research built in to curriculum (FIRE)
- Plenty of research opportunities (FIRE+)
- Very enthusiastic faculty
- Students seem very friendly and collaborative
- Curriculum seems amazing and very well thought out
- Tiered grading scale (H/HP/P/F); students seem to prefer it but idk
- Slightly higher ranking/name recognition?
- Stronger match list I think?
- Great facilities
- Nemours/VA/UCF Lake Nona Medical Center all within walking distance
- Lots of resources/advisors to guide students
- House exams using NBME questions
- Vibrant student life
Cons:
- HCA hospital system (and hospitals are scattered all across Orlando and central/north FL)
- HCA-affilitated GME programs
- I may be assigned monthly shadowing anywhere w/in 45 mi
FAU:
Pros:
- P/F precilinicals
- M1 summer research program + Research Distinction Track
- Hospitals in Boca Raton area (although far from campus and spread out)
- Faculty also seem fantastic
- Smaller class size (although idk if 70 vs 120 students is a big deal)
- Provides more 3rd party resources I think (not sure if that is a big deal)
- Community hospitals
- NBME exams
- Vibrant student life
Cons:
- No home hospital
- More limited GME programs
- Further from home
- 8 AM mandatory classes
