duke vs ucla
grateful for the opportunity to choose between these two but feeling conflicted rn. context i’m from nyc and very undecided about specialties. also i’ll def participate in research but also wanna go somewhere where i’ll be trained to be a great clinician and focus on patient care. i’d love some advice/other perspectives!
duke
- pros: incredible institution, smaller class size, research year/second degree opportunity, more east coast matching
- cons: not in a big city, less diverse area, smaller hospital system, less emphasis on health equity, 1 year preclinical (idk if this is a pro or con), location isn’t ideal for my relationship
ucla
- pros: weather + big city, large health care system and safety net hospitals, big on health equity and community health, location is more ideal for my relationship
- cons: large class size, seems like a lot of institutional and curriculum instability rn, heavy west coast matching, far from home
