I was told by one Hopkins M2 that most (80%) of Hopkins students take a research year. Is this accurate as it seems amazingly high percentage?

Additionally, if doing a research year is there any tuition cost or is the tuition frozen during that research year? Seems odd to pay for five years tuition in order to do research. Would love to hear from those who have insight.
