Re-App Advice

Hi Everyone! I don't want to be too pessimistic, but I am currently on two waitlists (in-state schools) and one pending post-II (out-of-state private) decision, so I want to plan ahead in case I have to reapply next cycle. I'm in my third year post-graduation and have worked full-time in clinical research this entire time. I also worked around 20 hours throughout college and had heavy involvement in a bunch of clubs/volunteering that create a pretty clear narrative to my app. If you have any advice on what to do in terms of hours and taking more classes, please let me know!

*If anyone is wondering why I didn't apply to DO, I don't have any stigma against it and would apply to a few DO's next time. I received the three II's one month post applying MD, and I hadn't finished my DO apps at the time so I felt less inclined to spend even more money when I thought I would have a more fruitful cycle.

GPA:

cGPA: ~3.46

BCPM: ~3.16

Significant upward trend after a very poor freshman year (1 F in calculus, D in Chem II and D in Chem II lab, and a C in Chem I. I really hated the rural school I was at freshman year, and being 17, I struggled to cope. This resulted in a terrible freshman year academically, and as soon as I transferred, I was 10000X happier + would go on to graduate with honors from the new school. I re-took Calc and Chem II + lab and got an A in all of these. Post-freshman GPA mostly in the 3.7–4.0 range. DIY post-bacc coursework ~3.8 included BioChem, Organic Chem I and II, and Physics I and II.

MCAT: 509, in the AAMC practice tests I was in the 512-514 range but had a very unfortunate drop on test day. Would probably re-take sometime late spring

Clinical experience:

~5,000 hours total

A combination of paid clinical research (where I would do phlebotomy, EKG's, vitals, and direct interaction with participants) and direct patient exposure

Research:

~5,000 hours clinical research (different role than the clinical one, that still involved patient interaction but was much more research-heavy. I also have three non-first-author pubs and three poster presentations.

Non-clinical volunteering:

~700 hours community service

Focused on underserved (immigrant and POC) populations in my local area on issues of environmental health + soup banks. Did this throughout undergrad, and then found a similar group to work with since graduating and moving cities.

Leadership:

~200 hours- Clubs during college

Application and Writing:

I had a few people who had successful application cycles in previous years read my entire app, and they said I had a strong narrative/theme in my application. My writing is usually pretty good, and I had a bunch of people look over it. Not sure what I would change about this aspect of my app aside from maybe just having more people review?

School List

26 Schools in total- 1 t10 for fun, 4 were t20 schools I had connections to, and the other 21 were schools whose medians were as close to my stats as possible while still avoiding out of state schools with a preference for instate apps

Thanks for your help <3
