Admit team, can we please get more transparency on how school rankings are determined?
First off, I really appreciate the work that’s gone into Admit, it’s been a genuinely helpful resource this cycle. One thing I’ve noticed though is that a lot of users (myself included) seem confused about how the medical school rankings on the platform are actually generated.
I’m not sure if this has been explained somewhere already, but rankings matter a lot to applicants when deciding where to apply, how to prioritize interviews, or how to interpret outcomes. Without knowing the methodology, it’s hard to know how much weight to give them.
As one example: UCSF is currently ranked 6th on Admit, but historically it’s been considered top 5 and often top 3. When I interviewed there, their leadership even mentioned that they’d argue they’d be ranked 1st or 2nd if they still participated in traditional rankings. That kind of discrepancy makes it unclear what exactly the Admit ranking is capturing.
It would be great to get more clarity on things like:
-What factors go into the rankings?
-Are they data-driven, user-driven, or algorithmic?
-How often are they updated?
Not trying to criticize, just think a bit more transparency here would go a long way in helping applicants use the platform more thoughtfully and avoid being misled. Curious if others feel the same.
