How much does school prestige matter for competitive residencies?
What is up dudes and dudettes. This cycle has been the weirdest year of my life but I finally have all of my decisions. I am very lucky to have gotten into case western and wake forest and am on the waitlist for my instate intuition as well as Albert Einstein. I feel like I am in purgatory because although I am thrilled with my acceptances, it is bitter sweet that I was so close to free medschool just to get waitlisted.
Anyway I now need to decide if I want to go to case or wake and I really don’t know what to do. Both schools seem to have their own strengths, where wake forest has a tight knit community and great clinical opportunities, while case western has incredible research and an overall incredible hospital system.
While I don’t have my heart set on any specific specialty, I definitely think there is a chance I want to go into something competitive like ent or ophthalmology. Do you think the school I pick between these two will affect my ability to pursue these competitive specialties? I know case western has stronger research ties but I assume I could find research at either institution if I look hard enough.
Overall I just want to know what people think of these schools and which will be best. All input is appreciated!
