"Wow you must've cured cancer if you got into that school with those stats"

I got into my dream school with an MCAT near the 25th percentile.

I swear, the number of family members and other pre-meds who after asking me about 1) my score and 2) my cycle results, have responded with some variation of “WOW see they really do practice holistic admissions and acknowledge your achievements!” pisses me off. They’re basically saying “wow you’re dumb af but see schools don’t just care if you’re smart!” I can’t tell if they’re trying to get into my head or if they’re trying to be nice, but I find it quite backhanded.

I’m becoming apprehensive about medical school because I know my class is going to have hyper-gunner students who — if Admit is any indicator of how people behave IRL — will inevitably ask how I did. If I say “nah I don’t share my scores,” they’ll just assume I did badly. If I tell them how I actually did, I’ll get the same backhanded response as above, and they’ll probably just write me off as dumb anyway. I guess I could just lie, but that’s weak.

I guess that’s my sign to grind for step 2 and residency apps so I don’t become the underdog again.
