What are your med school admission hot takes?

Here are some of mine:

- I don't think we should be adding seats in schools just to accommodate the volume of applicants. A lot of people are seeking higher education and I think that we're already seeing the result of a very educationally "top-heavy" society. People are getting degrees and have nothing to do with them because the job market for their specified field is so competitive.

- We should limit the number of schools applicants can apply to. I do truly believe that there are OOS students that apply to schools they don't really gaf about, expanding the applicant pool and making it unnecessarily more competitive for someone that might have that same school as their top choice. Also, having the financial capabilities to apply to 50+ schools while others can only afford like 10 is exactly the kind of privilege that medical schools say they want to avoid.

- If the MCAT median continues to climb in the way that it is, I think the system may need to have some restructuring. Sort of piggybacking on what I was saying above, some applicants that would otherwise be extremely capable of succeeding may have barriers for sufficient preparation (i.e. full-time jobs, caring for dependents, can't afford resources). There should still be some expectations in terms of cut-offs, but again I feel this process is starting to skew more toward individuals in a position of privilege.

- Schools should start offering in-person interviews again. Same reasoning as above, it makes things way more competitive for IS applicants when OOSers can apply wherever they want and complete the whole process from their bedroom.

I might get downvoted to hell for some of these but that's ok lol. A lot of these takes challenge the advantage that students have, and that might piss some people off to hear someone say something as abhorrent as "I think everyone should have a fair chance".
