Spent most of the cycle feeling underqualified… ended with 11 MD interviews

Hi everyone!

I’m an incoming MD student (now) who recently finished the application cycle and ended up receiving 11 MD interviews and multiple acceptances, including an interview at a T5 school.

Throughout most of the premed process I honestly felt like I didn’t have enough hours, research, or stats compared to other applicants. I spent a lot of time wondering whether my activities were competitive or if I was focusing on the right things, also being a first-gen.

The cycle ended up going much better than I expected, and going through the process taught me a lot about what actually matters in an application and how experiences are presented.

A few things that I think helped the most were:

• focusing on meaningful experiences rather than just accumulating hours
• making sure my activities told a clear story about why medicine
• spending a lot of time refining my personal statement and activities section
• applying strategically and broadly

I know the process can feel really overwhelming, especially if you’re unsure whether your hours, activities, or stats are competitive.

If anyone has questions about building experiences, essays, or interview prep, I’m happy to try to help or share what worked for me. Please DM me!
