Sankey in honor of 4/30

I'm so excited to finally share my sankey! I couldn't be happier with how this cycle turned out and wanted to share some insights I gleaned while going through this process.

OH resident/large public undergrad

4.0/523

200 hr research (0 pubs)

500 hr PCA on surgical stepdown unit (+1400 projected during gap year)

600 hr chem TA

250 hospital volunteering

30 hr nonclinical volunteering (refugee support)

650 hr sports coach

60 hr shadowing

As an applicant with high stats but unimpressive research (and low hours across the board), I was very nervous about how this cycle would pan out. I was afraid my research hours would bar me from top schools and that I'd be yield-protected from my target schools. My biggest piece of advice is DO NOT DISCOUNT HOW IMPORTANT YOUR WRITING IS. I had multiple interviewers comment on my storytelling ability and received many questions about the anecdotes I shared. I'm still a little salty about the lack of love from my state schools (esp OSU) but am SO THRILLED TO REP THE SHIELDS <3
