MCAT retake at 516/3.95 ORM?
2000h research (psychiatry with UofT faculty)
1500h clinical (MA & scribe) from college
400h non-clinical (civic work in healthcare) + targeted service (local food pantry, international COVID relief efforts)
3000 hours tutoring/mentoring kids
Phi Beta Kappa (lol doesn't mean much at my undergrad)
Middle-class South Asian male from NJ so inherently a few rungs below most applicants.
Thought my writing/statement was strong, avoided melodrama but wrote about a personal health condition.
Published with high authorship in mid/high IF journals, relatively novel field, self-taught computational methods & signal processing, strong research LOR.
Applied to and rejected from ~30 schools, only received 1 II (T10) that I'll be getting a WL notification for shortly. No love from state schools or alma mater either.
Have come to the conclusion that:
1. MCAT is too low for demographic
2. In-person service with populations different from me is limited
and/or
3. School list; I excluded service schools like BU and Georgetown
Burnt out looking for opportunities to improve my CV. Have been stuck at home since I graduated and I'm almost 25.
During the cycle, I literally interviewed Presidents of AAO and AAPOS for an op-ed I wrote, which was related to my PS. They also each personally reviewed it. Didn't get placed anywhere because no connections, no credentials, and it was an evergreen piece.
Only new deliverables for this cycle are 3-4 papers published (vs. under review) & health policy abstract presented at APHA Meeting.
Genuinely considering re-studying for MCAT at this point. Thoughts?
I could seek more work with disadvantaged populations but it feels tangential to my current trajectory and I don't want to come across as performative.
