Schools need to stop spamming the waitlist button omg

I know every medical school has different methods to deciding who gets interviewed. However, as a low stat applicant (GPA is 3.79 but my MCAT 493–>502 within 2 months) what on earth is the point of interviewing me if you aren’t willing to accept me…

I know people have secured the A with my stats but I also understand that it’s a low chance. When I applied I knew it was very possible my application didn’t get any traction despite all my experience,,, but then the interviews started rolling in and I let myself become hopeful

In the end, I received 3 interviews —> 2 WL (rejected from one and waiting on the other) and 1 decision TBD….

I’m thankful to have gotten interest from 3 schools that I genuinely would’ve been happy with getting accepted to (the WL rejection was literally my top choice 😭). But it just makes me sad that everything I’ve done up until now is still seen as “not enough” or “could be better“ because of that stupid test.. even tho 84% of people with my stats pass STEP 1 on their first try.

Maybe this process is finally making me crack but if my stats passed ur test for an interview at that point shouldn’t the focus be on… Basically the vibes and variety of the students in the incoming class? For example:

- Who are they as an applicant?

- Who are they as a person outside of medicine?

- What is there journey to wanting to pursue medicine?

- What are there passions when it comes to patient care? Are there specific populations they want to help?

- Do they have any specific speciality interests or goals for their future careers?

- What programs/reasons drew them to apply to our school in the first place?

- Did they have any unique experiences?

But I guess if we’re gonna ignore those things and still focus on stats even after the interview… didn’t that just waste everyone’s time? My low MCAT is not going to change and unless adcoms expect me to literally come off as the best person in the world during the interview,,, idk what the point of interviewing me was if nothing would change how they see my MCAT. Or If the adcoms only invited me for interview with the intention of waitlisting me because of my low MCAT then still … why waste the time?… if the admissions teams are just gonna compare my MCAT to other’s on the waitlist anyways i’ll most likely always be at a disadvantage :/

And with all that being said, WAITLISTS SHOULD BE SMALLER AND LIMITED !! If historically only 20 people ever come off the waitlist why on earth are schools allowed to waitlist 100+ people. To me that’s giving a waitlist of 50 MAX. Otherwise, that’s upwards of 80 people being kept on a string of anticipation….waiting around when the possibility is next to zero that they can get the A.

Overall this process is ridiculous! schools and applicants have been so complacent with it when all of this is extremely inconsiderate and should not be allowed. if this was a hospital this would be a bad standard of care lol. anyways thanks for tuning in to my crashout :D I’m really hoping to get off the WL or get the instant A from the other school I’m interviewing with. otherwise it would have been better for them to just reject me so I could have had months to prepare for reapp instead of whatever this is… the new app is literally open for editing smh
