As an admitted student to UCLA DGSOM (probably not attending since I got a full ride elsewhere) I have been reading nonstopppp for months about how crappy UCLA is rn, their public image is crumbling bc of their lawsuit, and crappy fin aid packages.

Now, I will be the first to admit that their fin aid is absolutely trash, and I understand why a lot of people are choosing other schools over UCLA. But the UCLA forum has been absolutely filled with people CRASHING TF OUT about wanting to get off the WL, like I have never witnessed such a toxic forum on this site.

I just got off another post reading about someone debating between Yale and UCLA, and a few other commenters also noted how they think it's also ironic and suspect maybe a lot of the bashing are coming from anxious WL people, but also I do think a lot of it comes from upset UCLA admits as well.

I can't help to feel that these facts remain:

1) UCLA is still a very good school, just going through a hard time right now. Understandable why people are cautious.

2) Fin aid is trash. Yup, no excusing that. Upset they didn't handle their Geffen scholarship funds more responsibly, as students have been having crappy aid packages for the last couple of years.

Now, these are my opinions:

1) I think it's valid that a lot of admitted students are upset, and understandable that they are choosing elsewhere. But I have also seen some judgement for those who are still heavily considering UCLA. Like almost to the point of straight up insulting them. I think people on here could give their opinion without making other people feel stupid for wanting to choose UCLA. Everyone has different financial/social situations that may make them lean UCLA.

2) I think it is possible that anxious waitlisters keep anonymously pushing the bad narrative of UCLA. Because I don't understand why so many people are spiraling to get off the WL. The irony is not clicking in my head to me.

At the end of the day, we are all entitled to our opinions and judgements, but hoping that people are just nicer to each other bc any discussion surrounding about UCLA is kinda feeling cutthroat.
