So Duke has a built in research year 3rd year. Are you basically PAYING TUITION to do research for a year? It doesn't make any sense. Can someone please explain the logic to me?

Why can't they do what NYU or Penn State do and make it a 3 year curriculum with an additional research year if you choose where you can get paid?
