Book rec I want to share, pls share yours too :)
Hi guys, just wanted to share a book that really shaped my perspective on medicine for the better - The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Ann Fadiman.
It’s an ethnography about a Hmong family and their interactions with the healthcare system in the Central Valley, CA in the 90’s, written by an anthropologist who became very close with all of the parties involved. It’s heartbreaking and eye-opening and completely shifted how I think about what it’s like as a patient with a radically different understanding of medicine and the human body as we have in allopathic medicine. Plus it’s very well-written and entertaining as well so it’s an easy read.
For a much lighter rec, you guys have to read the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, it’s ridiculous and amazing.
Add your recs of all types pls, thank u ♥️
