Einstein vs UMiami (Both Free Tuition)
Hi everyone, I am making this post for a friend who is facing a tough decision. Some context: they are a FL resident whose most competitive specialty they are interested in is urological surgery, but they are still pretty open to other experiences. They said they felt like they were leaning towards Einstein, but everyone at Miami second look said they would be crazy to go to Einstein over Miami. The lackluster Einstein Second Look did not help as well. That is what is causing some indecision right now. They are looking for an objective opinion. Below are their pros and cons.
Einstein
Pro:
- New Location
- New City
-Free
-NBME exams
-"Better" Name Recognition
- Exams are every three weeks
-It's in NYC, a super exciting city with new things to do every day
-Has strong support in Manhattan and Jersey
Con:
- It's in the Bronx
-40 minutes to get to Manhattan
UMiami
Pro:
-Pretty Robust, Established research, and Hospital
-Modern New Amenities
-It's in Brickell; day to day is exciting
-Weather
-Pretty good Urology Program
-Nice Apartments
Con:
-Driving
-Too familiar, not exciting; Same old same old
-Triple the cost of living compared to the Bronx
- Not much in Miami outside of clubbing and the beach
Community and growth experience are the most important to them. They do not care if they match at a crazy institution. Wants to go to private practice. Want to experience the early 20s to the MAX.
